Butterfly Pavilion
Posted on June 2, 2010
My Mom has been wanting to go to the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster for a long time, so we took her there for her birthday. There were lots of fun tropical flowers in bloom and the butterflies were out in force! And no, this isn’t turning into a butterfly blog…it’s just that I’ve been to a couple great butterfly pavilions in the past month and there were too many good picture taking opportunities to ignore.
This butterfly loved my Mom’s hair–he wouldn’t leave her alone:

This little guy must have thought that he was a presenter:

Desert Botanical Garden

A couple weeks ago I attended a photography workshop in Phoenix (more on that in my next post). After the workshop, I had a free morning and decided to go to Desert Botanical Garden–one of Eric’s and my favorite places in Phoenix. It is so different than other botanical gardens that I’ve visited because of Phoenix’s climate. There are lots of fun cacti and beautiful desert landscapes. I was also excited to learn that they have a butterfly pavilion during the Spring and I spent a lot of time in there photographing the butterflies. I found them to be very cooperative subjects! Here are some favorites from my visit:
Right before I left I saw this hummingbird…so beautiful and tiny:
New York City

For Eric’s spring break, we went to New York City, and then on to Boston to visit his brother, sister-in-law, and our nieces. We love going to New York–it is so fun to explore all the different neighborhoods, museums, restaurants, etc. And of course I had to sample some of the cupcake shops–yum! Here are some highlights from our trip (all photos were taken with my point and shoot):
On our first day in NYC, we took the Staten Island Ferry. It was a gorgeous day and we had great views of the skyline. These were taken through the window of the ferry:
Central Park:
We saw In the Heights, an entertaining musical about an immigrant community in north Manhattan. Corbin Bleu played the lead and the audience was full of screaming teenage girls. After the show, you could make a charity donation and in exchange get a signed photo taken with Corbin. I passed–although I think it would have been a big hit with my nieces!
Across the street from our theater, The Addams Family was in previews. I thought that the signs were fun:
MOMA had a special Tim Burton exhibit during the time we were there. It was amazing! Tim Burton is so prolific and creative–the exhibit was full of drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc.
We can’t wait to go back!
